Tender coconut, full protocol
Drink it, then ask the vendor to split it and carve you a spoon from the shell for the malai. If you didn't eat the malai, it doesn't count.
How to do it
- Buy a tender coconut from any roadside cart and drink the water first.
- Hand it back and ask the vendor to split it open. Most will also carve a sliver of the shell into a spoon if you ask.
- Scoop and eat all the malai, the soft white flesh inside.
- Say thanks and leave the shell in the vendor's pile.
